But before the unveiling, a jarring turn of events illuminates the hidden magic of her world, forcing her to reevaluate everything she once took for granted."

    The movie was decent enough, but the ending wasn’t handled very well at all. Maggie grace was as gorgeous as ever, as was the lead Minka Kelly. Overall I give it 7/10.

  • @Acme633
    @Acme633 3 дні тому

    Unlike one commentator, I never expected anything supernatural about the house. In fact, I suspected the husband might be involved relatively early. I personally feel that as a psychological thriller, it was much below par. It was not only in need of a better script, but more importantly, the lack of knowledge of medical science and logic in the behavior of characters was shocking. Would anyone be able to convince me (and my doctor!) that I have an early onset of dementia just because I could not recall certain things that someone told me I should? The story would be slightly less unbelievable if Cass in fact had signs of dementia as well as deep psychological problems and the husband just wanted to push her over the edge, and it has to be acknowledged that throughout the movie her behavior was far from normal. Other illogical decisions abound. Since when was the discovery of an affair by a colleague a good reason for murder? The ending was nonsensical. How did Cass and her colleague suddenly come out with a (bad) plan that almost caused both of them to get killed, while the cops presumably enjoyed watching and intervened only at the last moment? I don't get why Rachel should stab Matthew either,

    • @DeepestDream
      @DeepestDream 2 дні тому

      The fact that Cass plan was hidden from us all movie was imo a kind of cheat. Still enjoyed the thriller but wish they filled up a few of those plot holes.

    This movie was painfull to watch at times. The amount of bad decisions is insane and the end is crazy and so unnecesary. Also the tense music that was playing almost 60% of the movie, even when not so much was happening was a bit strange. The cinematography was very well done, but the performance of some of the actors was questionable. Spoilers: Why put herself in danger like this and set this complicated plot in motion at the end? She had the phone. That is all the proof she needed. She used the blood and all for her student to see her, but as it wasn't her husband that was supposed to find her, then just saying she committed suicide would have been enough. She and the friend that tries to help almost died. They both get serious dammage to their skulls. All that while the cops were waiting to see how it played out?

    • @DeepestDream
      @DeepestDream 4 дні тому

      Good pt. - it’s a heightened thriller so these horrible lapses in logic are usually forgiven (or in this case overlooked) by me. What I found to be a bigger flaw is: Spoilers: Mink Kelly’s ultimate plan was shielded from the actual storyline so we had the rug pulled out from under us without even a hint given. I just felt that was a total cheat. Of course the fellow teacher said he would help if needed but still i wish it wasn’t so hidden from us. Thx for your insights!

  • @bigjohn08865
    @bigjohn08865 9 днів тому

    It starts off like a cute romantic comedy (almost like a Hallmark movie) but then it changes mood. You go in thinking it is one kind of movie and it turns into another movie. It is melancholy with its themes of grief and loss and the issue of caring for an elderly parent. I liked it. The movie literally ends with Schuyler Fisk singing her song that summarizes the entire theme of the movie. As a fan of Schuyler Fisk and her music I liked the movie. BTW Schuyler is aging like a fine wine. I did not like Dustin Hoffman's character of Bill though. I just thought He was a jerk.

    When will there be a film about Gitta Mallasz who saved more than 100 Jewish women and children in Hungary? Not to mention this extraordinary story of "the Angel or Spirit (nothing religious about it)" who through her and her two other Jewish friends will receive revelations in the midst of German occupation in Hungary, see the book "Dialogues with the Angel ". Enough to make a huge film. She will also receive the distinction of Righteous Among the Nations posthumously.

    It seems like the film offers a cautionary message about being exploited by Western diplomacy propaganda. A sense of loss implying that exposure to Western influences or propaganda can lead to a loss of innocence or a decline in traditional values. Drawing parallels between the themes of the movie (which explores the intersection of spirituality, violence, and politics) and the potential risks of being swayed by external influences. Such message encourages critical thinking and discernment, urging individuals to be aware of potential biases and manipulation in media and diplomacy. A valid point to note. Many countries have indeed been influenced by Western powers, often under the guise of diplomacy and promoting liberty. However, this influence can sometimes be a means to advance the interests of the dominant power, rather than genuinely supporting the well-being of the influenced nation. For e.g, the United States and United Kingdom, in particular, have a complex history of diplomatic interventions and influences around the world. While they have promoted democracy and human rights in some cases, they have also been criticized for their involvement in regime changes, covert operations, and supporting authoritarian regimes that serve their interests. Meanwhile, both the US and UK face significant domestic challenges, such as income inequality, political polarization, and social injustices. It is ironic that while they promote democracy and freedom abroad, they still grapple with unresolved issues at home. We have to be mindful on the importance of critically evaluating the motivations and actions of powerful nations, even when they claim to be promoting noble values. It also emphasizes the need for genuine self-reflection and addressing domestic issues, rather than solely focusing on international influence and expansion. The cultural and religious roots of individualism in Western societies, particularly in the US and UK, have shaped their values and beliefs. Individualism emphasizes personal freedom, autonomy, and self-reliance, which can sometimes lead to a focus on individual interests over collective well-being. In contrast, many Eastern cultures, such as those in Asia and Africa, have a strong tradition of communalism, which prioritizes community, interdependence, and collective harmony. This cultural difference can lead to varying approaches to social, political, and economic issues. The Western emphasis on individualism has contributed to their diplomatic and political approaches, often prioritizing national interests and sovereignty over international cooperation and collective action. Meanwhile, Eastern cultures may be more inclined towards consensus-building and collective decision-making. Recognizing these cultural differences is essential for fostering understanding and cooperation between nations. By acknowledging and respecting these divergent perspectives, mankind can work towards more effective collaboration and a more harmonious global community.

    I felt like this film is a beautifully presented bland slasher movie, with the exception of Johnny who really works amazingly as a slasher villain we spend a lot of time with. I find that a lot of people underestimate the slasher genre, and when it is a throwback to the 80s, it's only the worst aspects they take from the genre such as dull characters, when there's plenty of slashers from the 80s that are well written and acted.

The wife googles searches for the killer based on a police sketch artist drawing and nothing else and instantly identifies him. The movie is awful. The actors are HORRIBLE. It seems that actors were cast because they're queer, (like Colin Cairnes) instead of being good actors. The actor playing the lead...horrible but queer. The actor playing the skeptic, horrible but queer. The actor playing the sidekick, horrible but queer. These guys suck.

    Jim Cummings can do no wrong in my book, very excited to see this. I was hoping he would work with Bill Hader (just because I love them both so much) and I almost lost it when he suddenly showed up in Barry, I couldn't believe it! If you guys haven't seen Barry yet, big recommend.

      When it was announced that the director of this film was going to do the new Evil Dead I INSTANTLY thought that Jim Cummings would make the perfect spiritual successor to Bruce Campbell’s Ash! Not that Ash should ever be recast, but Jim can definitely play a relative or something 😂

    I liked it a lot. It is currently being shown here on the Icelandic National Television Broadcast, as a part of women in Cinema, concept month or something. It's a hard critic on hard truths about this industry. There is always this debate that the happy prostitute is a lie. This movie is not there. How she changes and her compass moves to the place where when she has become A-list Porn performer, with Spiegler as a manager ( He is a real manager ) she kind of has to be ruthless to survive and also to win in the competition, not fail in her mission, . Very different angle then any other movies made.
